Many health problems are associated or caused by drinking too much alcohol. Different reasons may have caused it, however, the after effects of over drinking may be similar for most persons.
Drinking too much alcohol has both a short term and a long term effect. Some of the short term effects are hangovers, headaches, drowsiness, unconsciousness, blackouts, diarrhea and vomiting. The effects of over drinking alcohol usually wears off within 24-72 hours after the initial intake depending on how much alcohol you had. Some persons even face difficulties in breathing or heart palpitations which could lead to them being brought to the emergency room. And when drinking too much some people have the tendency to be more aggressive and confrontational causing arguments which could lead to violence which could lead to long term health problems.
Long term effects of alcohol in our body can cause many health problems which include:
1. High blood pressure
2. Liver disease
3. Nerve damage
6. Brain damage
7. Car accidents caused by a drunk driver
8. Injuries due to falling as drunken men tend to lose balance
Negative effects of alcohol are mental and behavioural disorders which include alcohol addiction. This can also cause low productivity at work due to lack of focus and attendance problems at work. This also impacts your relationship with family, friends and loved ones, especially if a longer time is spent in your drinking vice instead of in quality time with people who care for you. A lot of crimes happening in our society have also been triggered by too much alcohol consumption such as bar fights, rape, hit and run incidents, road rage and etc.
Some persons end up with physical and psychological dependence, they cannot live a day without drinking alcohol. Some persons even consume alcohol like water, which can also cause depression as it is a downer. So if partnered with problems it can be the cause for wrong decisions to be made. Some people become mean and abusive when they drink as alcohol causes some people to have three different personalities when they are drunk. Certain things you keep in secret when sober, come out when you are drunk and this is due to losing inhibitions. Alcohol intake has different effects for different people, as some become happy, some emotional, some aggressive, others overly confident. That is why too much of something will always have its downside. So make sure that you are able to manage yourself when you choose to drink.
Too much alcohol drinking has a lot of negative effects, so take note of the symptoms of alcohol addiction so it would be easy for you to prevent it. When it becomes an addiction persons may lose their ability to resist an invitation to drink. They might get angry when it is pointed out that they drink too much. A person who drinks alcohol even early in the morning might hide alcoholic drinks so that family members would not know.
If these symptoms are present, facing the problem and getting help from others is the best way to help alcoholics. It may end in rehabilitation, but full support from family and friends would make the process easier.
